The RV had been shuddering badly under brakes, so our first
order of business was to find someone to take a look at her. Luckily we found a
place that could book her in first thing in the morning, which necessitates an
extra night in Durango. All organised, we set out on the scooter for the
historic town centre.
We parked up in the main street and spent the morning
checking out the shops, historic buildings and hotels. Its nearly Halloween and the town is getting dressed up.
We did a beer tasting at
one of the local brew pubs – we tried a stout, a pale ale, a citrusy ale and a
raspberry ale. The raspberry one was interesting, smelled like raspberries but
tasted like beer.
We stopped in a Durango juice bar for a lunchtime smoothie. Ros
had a berry bliss and Steve had a peanut chocolate smoothie. Very yummy and all
healthy! To counteract the caramel apple we shared for morning tea.
Colorado is the only state in the US where recreational weed
is legal and there are shops selling it everywhere. Out of curiosity we stuck
our heads into a shop selling smoking apparatus and the guy behind the counter
was so chilled that he was barely coherent. He waved us on our way after trying
to hand Steve a business card and dropping the whole pile on the floor. He
shrugged, and left them there. The ornate styles of smoking apparatus was beyond
belief.
When we got back to the scooter, we had a warning from the parking
inspectors stuck on the scooter. Seems
that you can’t park your scooter, even if it fits, into a bicycle rack…. Who knew?
To avoid getting an actual ticket, we moved the scooter to 3rd
street, a tree lined street that was quite pretty with lovely houses and quite
a few churches. Many of the house owners
had made fairy entrance on trees on the nature strip, little doors and windows
at the bases of the trees. Quite cute!
After that we went back to the van and had a snack for
dinner and called it a day.
